Frequently Asked Questions

01 — How do I design and order a custom guitar?

Here are some instructions to help you get started! Feel free to contact us for more information if needed.

02 — Do you do repairs?

We only service Danny Davis guitars and mandolins. We highly recommend The Fret Shop for repairs on other-brand instruments.

03 — How long does it take to make a guitar?

It takes about 12 weeks to build a guitar. Sometimes a little longer if the aesthetic design is challenging.

04 — How long have you been making guitars?

As a serious hobby, I made guitars for 18 years. I’ve been operating as a full time luthier for about 10 years - so I am getting close to 30 years as a Luthier.

05 — Where do you get the wood from, and what is your favorite wood?

Quality tone wood comes from all over the world. The soundboards are most often conifers such as Spruce or Redwood.

The woods used for the back and sides usually come from rainforests. These include Rosewood, Mahogany, Cocobolo, Ebony and many others.

Some domestic woods make excellent guitars such as Maple and Walnut.

I rely on companies that specialize in sourcing instrument grade wood in a environmentally safe way. They also grade the woods and are willing to accept returns if something is not right.

My favorite wood is Mahogany, because of its tone (not too bright) and its nice dark color.

06 — Do you accept returns?

Returns and refunds are allowed only if Warranty conditions are met. Warranty includes workmanship only.
